Closeness imposes inherent risk. The hedgehog's dilemma is a metaphor for the challenges of intimacy. In the winter, hedgehogs move close to one another to share heat. However, the sharp spines lining their bodies make it impossible to avoid hurting one another. While they share the intention of a close relationship, this poses risk — for reasons they cannot avoid.
Yet, closeness is vital. How do we share closeness while holding these inherent risks? bleeding from the outside in explores themes
bleeding from the outside in explores themes of closeness, deterioration, trauma, separation, forgiveness, and grief. While closeness may pose inherent risk—we are wired for connection. By acknowledging the power we hold to affect other lives, perhaps we can better cherish the beauty, vulnerability, and fragility of being close.
